The job is boring and it’s fair to say my boss irritates the crap out of me.
There are two windows in the office which overlook a large area of roof of a shop below, on which birds tend to gather - pigeons mostly.
Although pigeons in general are a bit of a pain in the arse, I don’t have a problem with them at work, and yes they make their pigeon noises, but I don’t really hear them.
My boss hates the pigeons.
Hates them so much, he regularly jumps up from his chair, rushes over to the window, bangs on it and shouts, “Fucking pigeons, they get on my tits! Fuck off!”
For some reason I find that far more aggravating than any bloody pigeon. Can’t think why.
I arrived at work the other day to find my boss standing on the windowsill, banging on the glass with his left hand whilst waving his right hand out of open fanlight window shouting, “Fuck off out of it!”
Knowing there was no way he’d be able to get at them, needless to say the pigeons smugly ignored him. With my face pointing downwards and while biting the inside of my mouth, I hastily dumped my handbag on the desk and said I needed to go to the loo, where I was able to laugh out loud.
Not only does my boss irritate me, he also bores me witless.
I do appreciate that for many, gardening is very pleasant and satisfying - I can see that, really, I can - however my boss is obsessed to the point of being fanatical, particularly with the grass in his back garden.
He had it re-turfed earlier this year and is paranoid about weeds appearing in it. He regularly bores me stupid tells me about how he treats the lawn with feed and weed and then - horror of horrors! – it started getting brown patches and he decided it had some sort of fungus. He tried treating and aerating it, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
I couldn’t give a flying fuck about his grass. What I tend to hear is, ‘blah blah blah, grass, blah blah blah, more grass, blah blah blah.’
I end up having to open the stationary cupboard and pretend to rummage around in there, but really I’m yawning my head off, while fighting the urge to say, ‘For gawd’s sake, shut up you boring fart.’
The day he bought in three samples of artificial grass and asked my opinion about them was a turning point.
I am, you can be assured, looking for another job elsewhere, but I am committed to working for him until at least the end of October, as it will allow him to leave me to run the business for just over a couple of weeks while he visits Eldest Daughter, Captain Oz and Twinkle in Australia.
Oh wait.
I ‘forgot’ to tell you.
My boss is my first husband, Mr Ex, the father of my children.
Moral of this post:
Do not work for your ex-spouse, or you may find yourself requesting visitors when you’re in prison for committing manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, due to extreme tediousness and being bugged the hell out of. And drug taking.
*snort*
ReplyDeleteHi Bub,
ReplyDeleteOh my good lord! You work for your ex??!!! Lol, I think I would've been in prison a long time ago.
For a moment then I was certain you were talking about my dad. He used to open the window and shout at the birds to fucking stop singing!!!!
He too is obsessed with the lawn. I cannot understand people who get so obsessed with it, not to mention people who pour chemicals onto their gardens...
Good luck on the job search.. he sounds like a complete pain in the ass.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder he's your ex. Now I like you even more! "They get on my tits." I can't even imagine a man saying that unless he has really large man-boobs and spends a lot of time laying on the ground so pigeons can walk on him. At which point, it's his own damn fault they're on his tits.
ReplyDelete^Haha, Liz! I was just going to write about how MY dad used to shout at pigeons on his balcony. He lived in an apartment in downtown Edmonton for years, and pigeons would always congregate on his balcony railing, and shit all over it. He was always trying crazy ways to keep them off, including putting a board on it with nails sticking up. They'd just perch in between the nails, drove him batshit crazy! Or pigeonshit crazy, in that case :P
ReplyDeleteBub, that was fucking hilarious. I was laughing so hard. I guessed it had to be someone you knew, since it was just the two of you, but I didn't guess it was your ex lol.
good god, you went to work for your ex! I had to re-read that line about three times before it finally sunk in. how? why? I can't even imagine, but I imagine you might want a stiff drink at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your comments, I feel I need to say that in the interests of fairness, it takes two to tango when it comes to relationships; it just turned out we didn't tango at all well together!
ReplyDeleteAmanda: I know.
Liz: You'd have been in prison too? Do you know my ex-husband then?! With regards to the grass, I wound him up the other day when he was blah-ing on about weeds, by telling him my grass is covered in them, but as they're green they can stay. He couldn't handle that concept. Result!
Ami: I'm waiting for vacancies to come up with a particular company. I've already spoken to one of the managers who's told me to keep an eye out from September onwards. As soon as I can, my application will be in so fast, the ink will still be wet on the paper!
CM: *fistbump* Bwahahaaaa! Now you've given me a visualisation for when I'm at work - I'll be sticking my head in the cupboard to laugh as well as yawn!
Kyna: Perhaps shouting at pigeons is a man thing, you know, the sort of stuff that falls into the category of Secret Men's Business. Makes them feel all manly and shit like that.
Marguerite: There's no 'might' about it, it's several stiff drinks actually ;) I may write about how I came to work for him in a separate post, when I feel the need to let off a bit of steam again!
You really should stop throwing out food to the pigeons :) How about leaving him a magazine on the desk about pigeon fanciers :) I know I shouldn't encourage you but it is fun!
ReplyDeleteDon't tempt me...
ReplyDeleteThis week's topic is butter. More precisely Lurpak butter and how the water content has increased. Yawn.
